Good News for Teens 14 - 19

We are thrilled to share some exciting news with you. Wisconsin has passed WIsconsin Act 86 providing Free Driver Education Grants designed to make it easier for eligible individuals to obtain their driver’s license without the financial burden.

Students who qualify for free/reduced lunch may apply below to have their classroom and behind-the-wheel driver training for a Class D (Regular) driver license paid for through the Driver Education Grant Program. Students with grants can enroll in any driver education program offered by an authorized driver education provider. The tuition will be paid directly to the Driver Training school.

Eligible Students:

Students between the ages of 14-19 years of age who satisfies the income eligibility criteria for a free or reduced-price lunch in the federal school lunch program under 42 USC 1758 (b) (1).

  • Student must be a Wisconsin resident
  • Student has not previously held a driver license

Driving Instruction:

Driver Education Grant covers:

  • 30 hours of classroom;
  • 6 hours of behind the wheel;
  • 6 hours of observation.

Grant funds issued to a student expire after 18 months of no use and student may reapply


Student Application:

Applying is simple! Here are the steps!

  • Apply online below
  • Receive a confirmation email with confirmation “coupon numbers" for the course(s)
  • Share the coupon number(s) with Arcade Drivers School
  • Arcade Drivers School will enter the coupon number(s) in their student records upon course enrollment
  • Wisconsin DMV will send payment for the course(s) electronically to Arcade Drivers School
  • If the student is approved, the student will be given two coupons, one for classroom and one for behind-the-wheel courses.
  • If the student is denied, the student will receive a reason. In some cases, the student may reapply.
